Kaiju No. 8 takes place in Japan, the land of monsters.
Kafka Hibino, whose town was destroyed by monsters, dreams of becoming a member of the defense force to exterminate all the monsters together with his childhood friend, Mina Amira.
However, in contrast to Mina’s successful career, Kafka failed halfway through his career and ended up working as a “monster sweeper,” a cleaning company specializing in cleaning up monsters.
One day, he learns from Reno Ichikawa, who has joined the company as a part-time worker, that the age limit for joining the Defense Force will be raised to under 33 years old.
Kafka is now 32 years old, and decides to go for the Defense Corps once more. Then, a small monster gets stuck in his mouth, and he is able to transform into the form of a monster…
